It Had To Be
Not only skeptics and atheists but also many who call themselves Christians often complain, “Why didn’t God make a perfect world without sin, suffering, or death? If He is all-powerful, surely He could have done that if He had so desired!”

Terror is a tragic teacher
Terror is a tragic teacher, and the memories of September 11, 2001 haunt us even now. The images of planes crashing, towers collapsing, and bodies falling will be forever seared into our memories. Just to say "9/11" is to invoke a flood of remembrance and the bitter taste of tragedy.

Wednesday
A UNC student was hitchhiking back to school on a very dark and stormy night. The night was getting on and no cars went by. Suddenly he saw a car roll slowly toward him and stop.
Without thinking about it, the guy jumped into the back seat and closed the door when he suddenly realized there was nobody behind the wheel! Just then the car started slowly rolling forward again. He was beginning to get really freaked out when he noticed a curve in the road ahead. He was just thinking about climbing into the front seat when a hand mysteriously appeared through the window and moved the wheel.
The guy, paralyzed in terror, watched how the hand appeared every time right before a curve.
Gathering his courage, the guy finally jumped out of the car and ran to the nearest town. Wet and in shock, he went to a restaurant and started telling everybody about the horrible experience he just went through.
About half an hour later, two guys walked into the same rest- aurant. They were looking around for a table when one said to the other, "Hey, look, isn't that the guy who got in the car when we were pushing it?"

Our local newspaper ran several stories about a study that tied female obesity to a virus. One evening my sister came home exhausted from a long day at work.
"Did you read the paper?" she asked. "I'm not going in to work tomorrow. I'm calling in fat."

Tuesday
After I had purchased movie tickets for myself and my wife, she went inside to find seats while I got some popcorn. By the time I was served, the previews were already being shown. I stumbled my way through the dark, sat down, put the popcorn in my wife's lap and gave her arm an affectionate squeeze.
Then I heard a familiar voice say, "Pssst! Howdy! I'm back here."

A lady was picking through the frozen turkeys at the grocery store, but couldn't find one big enough for her family.
She asked a stock boy, "Son, do these turkeys get any bigger?"
The stock boy replied, "No ma'am... Ya' see, they're dead."

Did you hear about the UNC student that... 1. Took her new scarf back to the store because it was too tight. 2. Couldn't learn to water ski because she couldn't find a lake with a slope. 3. Can't work in a pharmacy because the bottles won't fit into the typewriter.

A Bigger Purpose Than You Ever Dreamed
Ashley Smith was just getting her life back together. As a 26-year-old single mom, she had had a pretty rough journey. A Christian upbringing but a youthful rebellion - brushes with the law, some drug issues, jobs found and lost - and finally marriage and a little girl. Four years ago, her husband died in her arms from stab wounds in a violent attack. On that night in March of 2005, she was just getting settled in the apartment she had moved into two days earlier. When she returned from her 2:00 A.M. run to the store, accused killer Brian Nichols forced his way into her apartment at gunpoint.

The Advocate
It often seems that, in our society, whether someone is deemed guilty orinnocent of a crime may have more to do with the effectiveness of theirlegal counsel than the facts of a case. Criminal defense attorneys inhigh-profile cases have become celebrities in their own right, masteringthe art of manipulating evidence to cast doubt in the collective mind ofthe jury. Regretfully, many impoverished defendants who don't have themeans to hire well-known attorneys go into a trial with lower odds ofbeing found innocent or of receiving a lenient sentence. Yet in spite ofinequities, I don't know anyone in the criminal justice system that wouldadvise a defendant to go before a court without an advocate.
