U.S. Supreme Court
In 1796 the US Supreme Court issued this ruling, "By our form of government, the Christian religion is the established religion, and all sects and denominations of Christians are placed on equal footing." Some 57 years later, after Congress was petitioned to separate Christian principles from government, in 1853 the House Judiciary Committee issued their formalreport, including these words: "In this age there is no substitute for Christianity. This was the religion of the founders of the republic, and they expected it to be the religion of their dependents. The great vital, conservative elements in our system is the belief of our people in the pure doctrines and divine truths of the gospel of Jesus Christ."- - - Dr. Gerald Beavan

Physical Problems
.
A UNC grad was having some physical problems and his doctor told him that he had to drink warm water one hour before breakfast. At the end of a week he returned and the doctor asked if he was feeling better. He said he actually felt worse.
"Did you drink warm water an hour before breakfast each day?"
"No," replied the man, "All I could do was about 15 minutes!"

Presidential Quote
.
The true Christian is the true citizen, lofty of purpose, resolute in endeavor, ready for a hero's deeds, but never looking down on his task because it is cast in the day of small things; scornful of baseness, awake to his own duties as well as to his rights, following the higher law with reverence, and in this world doing all that in him lies, so that when death comes he may feel that mankind is in some degree better because he has lived.
--President Theodore Roosevelt

Playing Chicken Games With The Crocks
.
In the James Bond movie "Live and Let Die," "007" encounters a nest of crocodiles bent on having him for a meal. Armed only with pieces of chicken, Bond tosses the fowl at the crocs to hold them off until he figures out an escape plan. The crocks quickly consume the chicken, but keep pressing toward their ultimate objective. Which brings us to Israel's forced removal of residents from Gaza. Israel is "Bond." The pieces of chicken represent land. The Palestinian/Arab/Muslim side are crocodiles. Get it? Most Westerners do not. Israel tosses pieces of land at the Palestinian side, but once it is consumed, the Palestinians only want more until their real objective -- the consumption of Israel -- is reached and their hunger satiated. Reading and listening to the reaction of Muslim clerics, Palestinian leaders and others throughout the region to Israel's unilateral act offers little comfort to anyone with faith in a two-state "solution" consisting of Israel and a Palestinian entity living side-by-side in peace and harmony. That does not deter apostles of this false political doctrine from continuing to promote their flawed plan. An editorial in London's Daily Telegraph represents this thinking: "The onus is now on (Palestinian Authority leader) Mahmoud Abbas ... Hamas, Islamic Jihad, the Fatah Martyrs' Brigades and others of their ilk must be persuaded or compelled to abandon their arms in favor of peaceful political engagement." That is unlikely to happen. Among the chants heard as Israeli soldiers forced their fellow Jews from their Gaza homes was, "We will continue with the rest of Judea, Samaria, Jerusalem, until we control all of Israel." Senior Hamas leader Mahmoud al-Zahar, in an interview with the Arab newspaper Asharq Al Awsat, said, "We do not and will not recognize a state called Israel. . . . This land is the property of all Muslims in all parts of the world. . . . Let Israel die." That's not the rhetoric of someone who yearns to live side-by-side in peace and harmony with an Israeli state. They are all crocodiles. Tossing pieces of "chicken" in their direction will never satisfy them. They want it all. They say so, and their actions prove they are serious.

Dorian Gray
.
In the novel The Picture of Dorian Gray, Oscar Wilde describes an exceptionally handsome young man so captivating that he drew the awe-stricken adulation of a great artist. The artist asked him to be the subject of a portrait for he had never seen a face so attractive and so pure. When the painting was completed, young Dorian became so enraptured by his own looks that he wistfully intoned that it would be wonderful if he could live any way he pleased and that any dis- figurement of a lawless lifestyle would mar only the picture but leave his own countenance unblemished. In Faustian style he was willing to trade his soul for that wish. One day, alone and pensive, Dorian went up to the attic and uncovered the portrait that he had kept hidden, only to be shocked by what he saw. Horror, hideousness and blood marred the portrait. The charade came to an end when the artist himself saw the picture. It told the story. He pled with Dorian to come clean, saying, "Does it not say somewhere,'Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow'?" But in a fit of rage to silence that voice, Dorian grabbed a knife and killed the artist. Only one thing was left for him to do-he took the knife to remove the only visible reminder of his wicked life. The moment he thrust the blade into the canvas, the portrait returned to its pristine beauty, while Dorian lay stabbed to death on the floor. The ravages that had marred the picture now so disfigured him that even his servants could no longer recognize him. What a brilliant illustration of how a soul, though invisible, can nonetheless be tarnished. I wonder, if there were to be a portrait of my soul or your soul, how would it best be depicted? Does not the conscience sting, when we think in these terms? Though we have engineered many ways of avoiding physical consequences, how does one cleanse the soul? We too, face Dorian Gray's predicament. Sooner or later, a duplicitous life reveals the cost. The soul is not forever invisible. But there is One who can cleanse and restore us. Indeed, hear the words of the prophet Isaiah to which Oscar Wilde alluded: "Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. Though they be red like crimson, they shall be as white as wool." The greatest artist of all speaks even today. Ravi Zacharias

Time Zones Adopted In U.S.A.
.
The actual local time, or "sun time" constantly changes as one moves either east or west. With the arrival of railroad travel, the situation raised problems for railway lines and passengers trying to synchronize schedules in different cities. The need for a system of standardized time was evident, and eventually a system proposed by Charles F. Dowd, a school principal in New York State, was adopted. Under Dowd's system, North America was divided into four time zones, fifteen degrees of longitude, and one hour of "standard time" apart. At noon on Sunday, November 18, 1883, the new system went into effect. It became the basis for the international system of time zones we're familiar with today.

BLOG TRIVIA

The Selenologists study the Moon, as geologists study Earth.
The planet Venus does not tilt as it goes around the Sun, so consequently, it has no seasons. On Mars, however, the seasons are more exaggerated and last much longer than on Earth.
Scientists believe that hydrogen comprises approximately 90 to 99 percent of all matter God created in the universe. Born on November 14, 1963, the island of Surtsey off the coast of Iceland, achieved permanence in 1965 when volcano lava spread over its surface, protecting it from erosion.
The word "toast," meaning a proposal of health, originated in Rome, where an actual bit of spiced, burned bread was dropped into wine to improve the drink's flavor, absorb its sediment, and thus make it more healthful.
"I hate ingratitude more in a man more than lying, vainness, babbling, drunkenness, or any taint of vice whose strong corruption inhabits our frail blood."

Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought. - - Jer 17:7& 8

Living Vicariously
.
Many parents today are living vicariously through their children and their definition of "success," which creates problems.
You see this not only on ball fields, but also on bumper-stickers: the one that brags, "My son is an honor student," or one just sighted in California that says, "My all-star struck out your honor student." Or the parents who brag about their kids getting into prestigious schools.
