Weekend Word Riddles 1.13.6

1) I alone am an intricate game
I and a labyrinth are one and the same
Add a letter and then I become
Astonished, amused, and perplexed to some
What am I?

2) First think of a person who lives in disguise
Who lives in secrets and tells naught but lies
Next tell me what's always the last thing to mend
The middle of middle and the end of the end
And finally give me a sound often heard
During the search of a hard to find word
Now string them together and answer me this
Which creature would you be unwilling to kiss?

3) I am a fruity cereal that can be
known as artifices, antics, frauds,
hoax's, guiles, impostures, ruses,
ploys, stratagems, deceits, jests,
and jokes.
If you want me ALL for yourself,
be sure not to eat me in the presence
of small furry mammals.

4) I'm called the Evening star,
or Morning star,
It depends on when I'm seen.
In the early 1960's
I was wearing blue jeans.

5) I contain faces of different colors
for fun they get mixed with one another
It's easy for them to hang outside their 'race'
but it's quite tricky to put them back
in their place
With time and patience it can be done
but to mix them up again is way more fun.

6) A truck driver went down a one-way street
the wrong way in front of a police department
without getting a ticket. How did he do this?

7) I am tall and skinny, I can be rough or smooth.
My tears can change colors, yet I can not move.
My many arms can reach out, and I can be a danger.
But there are those who do not mind,
including chipmunks and some rangers.
You can see me everyday, if you bother to look my way.
Don't hesitate to come by, but first do you know:
What am I?

8) I walk, but have no legs. I sleep, but never dream.
You can rock me in a cradle, but I am not a baby and
I can go around the world faster than you can cross a
room. What am I?

Does Liberalism Have A Future?

Martin Peretz is worried that liberalism has no
future in America. Editor-in-Chief of The New
Republic, Peretz writes of his concern in a major
article published in the 90th anniversary issue
of his magazine. "Not Much Left," is a cry from
the heart, offered by Peretz to what remains of
a liberal movement in America.

Peretz begins by arguing that, in the 1960s, it
was conservatism that was devoid of ideas and
facing a dismal political future. In the words of
economist John Kenneth Galbraith, conservatism
was "bookless" and intellectually bankrupt. Now,
Peretz argues it is liberalism "that is now bookless
and dying." Peretz has good reason for alarm. He--
and the magazine for which he writes--represent
a form of liberalism that is now largely without
constituency in the Democratic Party and the
political left. Peretz longs for the day when the
progressivism of Theodore Roosevelt and the
liberalism of Franklin Delano Roosevelt ruled
the left and served as a fertile greenhouse for
the incubation of potent political ideas.

Narrow Banks

If you want to get into Manhattan from New Jersey,
you have several choices. You can take a long bridge,

one of two long tunnels, a ferry trip, or a long un-recom -

mended swim. The Hudson River is really pretty wide

when it reaches Manhattan, but it's not very powerful.

If you could see the Hudson near its headwaters in

upstate New York, you'd see it roaring along with a
very strong current. Upstate its banks are confined
and the force is greater. But by the time it reaches

Manhattan, the Hudson is so spread out that its
power
seems almost gone. I know people like that.

THE MYTH OF BALANCE

The myth of "balance" is one of our culture's
most pervasive and destructive myths. And

"The Book Of Daniel"
A Satire On Liberal Christianity?

"The Book of Daniel" premiered last Friday with
a two-hour special that arrived with much publicity
but garnered a third-place showing in the ratings.
NBC's new series was one of the most-hyped new
programs of recent years, complete with effusive
media coverage and much sought-after controversy.

The premise of the show is the reason for the controversy.
"The Book of Daniel" features a liberal Episcopalian priest
and his family who, along with various others in the cast,
are involved in almost every form of sin imaginable. As if
all this were not enough, the show also features an actor
playing the part of Jesus, who appears as the very essence
of liberal toleration, complete with therapeutic aphorisms
and transcendent nonjudgmentalism.

Congratulating a friend after her son and daughter got married
within a month of each other, a woman asked, "What kind of boy did
your daughter marry?"

"Oh, he's wonderful," gushed the mother. "He lets her sleep late,
wants her to go to the beauty parlor regularly, and insists on
taking her out to dinner every night."

"That's nice," said the woman. "What about your son?"

"I'm not so happy about that," the mother sighed. "His wife sleeps late,
spends all her time in the beauty parlor, and makes them eat
take-out meals!"

Two UNC students decide to go duck hunting. Neither one
of them has ever
been duck hunting before and after several
hours they still haven't bagged
any. One hunter looks at the
other and says "I just don't understand it
-- why aren't we
getting any ducks?"

Her friend says "I keep telling you, I just don't think we're
throwing
the dog high enough."

END OF THE SPEAR

The image “http://www.everytribe.com/Storage/PageImages/116_descriptionImg.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

Fifty years ago, Nate Saint, Jim Elliot, and the three other American
missionaries dared to make contact with the most violent society ever documented
by anthropologists. This week END OF THE SPEAR, the story of their martyrdoms,
hits the theaters, and the film makers hope contact will be made with another
violent and spiritually blind society -- our own. It is a story that should be
told in this age of ethnic cleansings, gulags, holocausts, genocide, and riots.

When the film's director, Jim Hanon, traveled to Ecuador to get permission
from
the Waodani (formerly Auca) Indians to make the movie, the tribe initially
refused. But when Steve Saint, Ned Saint's son, told them stories about
situations like the Columbine shootings, the Waodani were electrified. "If this
story will help your culture not live so violently," they said, "then we [want
you to] tell our story."

7 Wonders Of The World

If someone asked you to name the Seven
Wonders of the World, could you do it?
Well, I managed to come up with 5 before
later finding out that 3 of them were wrong!
So I reckon that you couldn't do it either...
and even if you could, I'm sure you
would get some of them wrong...(please
don't take offence...

I'm not saying you're stupid or anything
otherwise it reflects badly on my 2 from 7)

You think you can do it? Well then...I lay
down the challenge to you now before you
scroll down any further and ask you to
find yourself a pen and some paper and
list what you would consider to be the
Seven Wonders of the World...

...Finished? No, ok then...1 more minute.

Religious Freedom Day

In too many cases, Christian children in public school classrooms
are being forced to act like atheists. After all, that is effectively
what is happening when they are told not to talk about Jesus, not
to sing about Jesus, and not to write about Jesus.

Three UNC students went hunting. The first thing they
did was to get permission to hunt on a friends wooded
land. Their friend
told them if they get lost to fire three
times into the air
and he would come and find them and
lead them out of the woods.

After three hours of hunting, the students had not had
any
luck and were tired. Not only that they were lost.
The
first Carolina student fired three times into the air
and sat down to
wait. After an hour, the second student
got up and fired
three times into the air and sat down to
wait. By this
time it was getting dark. The third UNC
student got up, fired
three times into the air and said,
"I sure hope he gets
here fast, I am out of arrows".

A UNC grad goes out to her mail box, looks in, closes the door
and goes back into her house. A few minutes later she comes
out, goes to her mail box, looks in, closes the door and goes
back into her house.

She repeats this process several times before a neighbor who
has been witnessing this series of events says to her; "You
must be expecting a very important letter or package today."
The UNC grad answers; "No, I'm working on my computer
and it keeps telling me that I have mail.

Titanic Of The Mississippi

April 27, 1865 In the worst steamship disaster in U.S. history,
the steamer Sultana
exploded on the Mississippi River taking
the lives of about 1,700
people. Of the estimated 2,300 people
on board, 2,134 were Union
soldiers returning from Confederate
prison camps. The cause of the
accident was not determined.

Why Bad Law Sometimes Has To Go

The confirmation hearings for Judge Alito to the U.S. Supreme Court
are
beginning. If you have followed the press in recent months, you
have seen that
at least three-quarters of the comments have focused
on Alito's position on
abortion. Both sides in the fight feel that he might
be the deciding vote that
could overturn Roe v. Wade. So opponents are
demanding that he either say that
he will vote to overturn Roe so they
can torpedo the nomination, or commit to
upholding Roe.

Big City Visit

A UNC grad was visiting the big city for the first time. She checks
into her hotel and the bellboy takes her bags. She follows the boy,
and as the door closes, she looks around and shakes her fist at him.

"Look here -- I may be straight from UNC, but that don't mean
I'm stupid! I paid *good* money and this room won't do at ALL!

It's too small, there's no ventilation, no TV -- there's not even a BED!"

"Ma'am, this is the elevator."

Verse of the Day

* * * Four important things to KNOW: #1) For ALL (Americans, Muslims, Jews, Catholics, Hindus, Buddhist, Asians, Presbyterians, Europeans, Baptist, Brazilians, Mormons, Methodist, French, etc.) have sinned & fall short of the glory of God. #2) For the wages of above (see #1) are DEATH (Hell, eternal separation from God, & damnation) but the Gift (free & at no charge to you) of God (Creator, Jehovah, & Trinity) is Eternal Life (Heaven) through (in union with) Jesus Christ (God, Lord, 2nd Person of The Trinity, Messiah, Prince of Peace & Savior of the World). #3) For God so greatly loved & dearly prized the world (Americans, Muslims, Jews, Catholics, Hindus, Buddhist, Asians, Presbyterians, Europeans, Baptist, Brazilians, Mormons, Methodist, French, etc.) that He even gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, that whosoever (anyone, anywhere, anytime - while still living) believes (trust in, relies on, clings to, depends completely on) Him shall have eternal (everlasting) life (heaven). #4) Jesus said: "I am THE WAY, THE TRUTH, & THE LIFE. No one (male/female - American, Muslim, Jew, Catholic, Hindu, Buddhist, Asian, Presbyterian, European, Baptist, Brazilian, Mormons, Methodist, French, etc. ) comes (arrives) to the Father (with GOD in Heaven) EXCEPT BY (through) ME (no other name). *** This wonderful loving GOD gives you the choice - - - (Rev. 3:20) {Please note that church membership, baptism, doing good things, etc. are not requirements for becoming a Christian - however they are great afterwards!!!} *** Jesus said, "Wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction (Hell, damnation, eternal punishment), and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life (Heaven, eternal happiness, forever with God), and only a few find it.

D I S C L A I M E R If someone should ask if it's legal to download songs
found on various non-commercial sites, such as this one.

Well, I'm neither a lawyer nor a technician,
and I've begun to wonder if it was legal for
us to tape music off the radio back when
tape recorders first came into being.

And were we committing a crime when we recorded
a movie shown on TV with our VCRs? And was it
really legal to buy a dual-deck recorder for the
express purpose of duplicating cassettes?

My answer to all of the above is, "I don't know."

Nonetheless, here is a formal statement in
some kind of legalize that appears to apply
to this kind of file availability:
