Does Liberalism Have A Future?

Martin Peretz is worried that liberalism has no
future in America. Editor-in-Chief of The New
Republic, Peretz writes of his concern in a major
article published in the 90th anniversary issue
of his magazine. "Not Much Left," is a cry from
the heart, offered by Peretz to what remains of
a liberal movement in America.

Peretz begins by arguing that, in the 1960s, it
was conservatism that was devoid of ideas and
facing a dismal political future. In the words of
economist John Kenneth Galbraith, conservatism
was "bookless" and intellectually bankrupt. Now,
Peretz argues it is liberalism "that is now bookless
and dying." Peretz has good reason for alarm. He--
and the magazine for which he writes--represent
a form of liberalism that is now largely without
constituency in the Democratic Party and the
political left. Peretz longs for the day when the
progressivism of Theodore Roosevelt and the
liberalism of Franklin Delano Roosevelt ruled
the left and served as a fertile greenhouse for
the incubation of potent political ideas.

Josh was helping Sally, a UNC grad, clean out the trunk of her car.
Inside, he noticed a bag labeled "Emergency Repair Kit". Looking at it a
little closer, he noticed a stick of dynamite inside. Thinking that was
a bit strange, he asked Sally what it was for.

She said, "It's part of my emergency repair kit."

Josh said, "I can see that, but why?"

Sally replied, "In case I have a flat and need to blow up one of my tires."

Dear Howdy,

According to Dianne Feinstein, Roe vs. Wade is critically important because "women all over America have come to depend on it." At its most majestic, this precious right that women "have come to depend on" is the right to have sex with men they don't want to have children with.

There's a stirring principle! Leave aside the part of this precious constitutional right that involves (1) not allowing Americans to vote on the matter, and (2) suctioning brains out of half-born babies. The right to have sex with men you don't want to have children with is not exactly "Give me liberty, or give me death."

In the history of the nation, there has never been a political party so ridiculous as today's Democrats. It's as if all the brain-damaged people in America got together and formed a voting bloc.

The Federalists drafted the greatest political philosophy ever written by man and created the first constitutional republic. The anti-Federalists — or "pre-Democrats, as I call them — were formed to oppose the Constitution, which, to a great extent, remains their position today.

Andrew Jackson, the father of the Democratic Party, may have had some unpalatable goals, but at least they were big ideas. Wipe out the Indians, kill off the national bank and institute a spoils system. Love him or hate him, he never said, "I'll be announcing my platform sometime early next year." The Whigs were formed in opposition to everything Jackson stood for.

The Republican Party emerged from the Whigs when the Whigs waffled on slavery. (They were "pro-choice" on slavery.) The Republican Party was founded expressly as the anti-slavery party, which to a great extent remains their position today.

Having won that one, today's Republican Party stands for life, limited government and national defense. And today's Democratic Party stands for ... the right of women to have unprotected sex with men they don't especially like. We're the Blacks-Aren't-Property/Don't-Kill-Babies party. They're the Hook-Up party.

Leave aside any moral questions about baby-killing — a term I have come to understand the baby-killing party dislikes. Smoking is fun too, but even I wouldn't support a political party whose sole raison d'etre was to eliminate non-smoking sections across the nation. That's not exactly the Magna Carta.

This week's conventional wisdom is that the Democrats weren't even trying to nail Alito at the confirmation hearings. Au contraire! The Democrats were tigers! They proved exactly what they set out to prove.

In fact, Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-Hillary's state, was so deft in his questioning, he even has me convinced that Alito is going to vote to overrule Roe vs. Wade. (And just when I thought I couldn't be more enthusiastic about the nomination!)

I'll go out on a limb and bet that, after the Democrats' expert cross-examination, Judge Alito has lost the support of every single member of NARAL.

The problem for the Democrats is: NARAL members aren't like most people. "Give me liberty or give me the right to have unprotected sex with men I don't want to have a child with" just isn't that attractive a principle in the light of day.

Love,
Ann C.

Dear Howdy,

Dear friends:

If you have been watching any of the U.S. Senate hearings this week concerning Judge Samuel Alito's Supreme Court nomination, you have heard the term stare decisis used repeatedly. It is Latin expression referring to the legal doctrine of honoring past court decisions as precedent in deciding current or future decisions.

The doctrine of stare decisis is treated as almost sacred. Democrats are almost hysterically invoking it as they are trying to coerce Judge Alito to commit to honor precedent regarding the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade decision allowing the mass slaughter of babies, which caused the subsequent death of probably 50 million or more human beings in the worst holocaust in history.

It's odd and even morbid that the single overriding issue of the Democratic members of the Senate Judicial Committee is the killing of babies!

But where were those zealous stare decisis proponents when decisions were made in the past 59 years concerning the Christian faith upon which the nation was based. How about these precedents:

Vidal v. Girards Executors (1844): The Court produced a ruling which said, "Christianity is not to be maliciously and openly reviled and blasphemed against, to the annoyance of believers or the injury of the public." The Courts decision asked the question, "Where can the purest principles of morality be learned so clearly or so perfectly as from the New Testament?"

Holy Trinity v. United States (1892): The Supreme Court cited document after document from American history and concluded, "There is no dissonance in these declarations. There is a universal language pervading them all, having one meaning; they affirm and reaffirm that this is a religious nation." The ruling states bluntly, "This is a Christian nation."

United States v. Macintosh (1931): The Supreme Court declared, "We are a Christian people...according to one another the equal right of religious freedom, and acknowledging with the reverence the duty of obedience to God."

But in early 1947, VIOLATING ALL PRECEDENT, an entirely new agenda gripped the Court. In Everson v. Board of Education, the Supreme Court ruled that the First Amendment erected a "wall of separation" between church and state which must be kept "high and impregnable." Supreme Court Justice Hugo Black, author of the decision, stated, "We could not approve the slightest breach" of that separation. The Court cited no precedent from previous rulings. The case was an official betrayal of Americas Christian heritage and the stare decisis doctrine now used to justify the killing of babies.

From the time of Everson until today, decisions by the U.S. Supreme Court have helped to bring about the greatest decline in American civilization. It was as if the Supreme Court had declared a bloodless revolution in America -- a revolution more subtle and yet just as destructive as the Russian revolution under Lenin. Over the next several decades, we witnessed a stream of liberal court rulings that gradually reshaped who we are as a nation:

Engel v. Vitale, Murray v. Curlett, and Abington v. Schempp (19621963): Within two years, three separate cases effectively removed prayer, religious instruction, and Bible reading from Americas public schools. At about the same time, students began to be taught that there is no God, no absolute truth, that the universe is a cosmic accident, and that they evolved by the chance collision of sea-slime molecules and are the same status as apes. Since then, God, the Bible and prayer have been replaced in our schools by drugs, handguns and condoms. How can anyone deny the correlation?

Florey v. Sioux Falls School District (1979): The Court ruled it unconstitutional for a student to ask at a school assembly, "Whose birthday is celebrated on Christmas?"

Grove v. Mead School District (1985): The Supreme Court refused to remove from the required curriculum of a class a book that referred to Jesus as "a poor white trash God."

Stare decisis? Yeah, right. Where was it when we needed it? It is only used by the Democrats to justify the killing of babies.

Jim

Verse of the Day

* * * Four important things to KNOW: #1) For ALL (Americans, Muslims, Jews, Catholics, Hindus, Buddhist, Asians, Presbyterians, Europeans, Baptist, Brazilians, Mormons, Methodist, French, etc.) have sinned & fall short of the glory of God. #2) For the wages of above (see #1) are DEATH (Hell, eternal separation from God, & damnation) but the Gift (free & at no charge to you) of God (Creator, Jehovah, & Trinity) is Eternal Life (Heaven) through (in union with) Jesus Christ (God, Lord, 2nd Person of The Trinity, Messiah, Prince of Peace & Savior of the World). #3) For God so greatly loved & dearly prized the world (Americans, Muslims, Jews, Catholics, Hindus, Buddhist, Asians, Presbyterians, Europeans, Baptist, Brazilians, Mormons, Methodist, French, etc.) that He even gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, that whosoever (anyone, anywhere, anytime - while still living) believes (trust in, relies on, clings to, depends completely on) Him shall have eternal (everlasting) life (heaven). #4) Jesus said: "I am THE WAY, THE TRUTH, & THE LIFE. No one (male/female - American, Muslim, Jew, Catholic, Hindu, Buddhist, Asian, Presbyterian, European, Baptist, Brazilian, Mormons, Methodist, French, etc. ) comes (arrives) to the Father (with GOD in Heaven) EXCEPT BY (through) ME (no other name). *** This wonderful loving GOD gives you the choice - - - (Rev. 3:20) {Please note that church membership, baptism, doing good things, etc. are not requirements for becoming a Christian - however they are great afterwards!!!} *** Jesus said, "Wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction (Hell, damnation, eternal punishment), and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life (Heaven, eternal happiness, forever with God), and only a few find it.

D I S C L A I M E R If someone should ask if it's legal to download songs
found on various non-commercial sites, such as this one.

Well, I'm neither a lawyer nor a technician,
and I've begun to wonder if it was legal for
us to tape music off the radio back when
tape recorders first came into being.

And were we committing a crime when we recorded
a movie shown on TV with our VCRs? And was it
really legal to buy a dual-deck recorder for the
express purpose of duplicating cassettes?

My answer to all of the above is, "I don't know."

Nonetheless, here is a formal statement in
some kind of legalize that appears to apply
to this kind of file availability:
