Snails sleep a lot. In addition to several months of winter
hibernation, they crawl into their shells to get out of the
hot sun, which dries them, or heavy rain, which waterlogs
them. Desert snails may even doze for three or four years.

The sport with the largest expenses (medical, legal, and
others) due to injuries treated in U.S. emergency rooms in
1995 was bicycling, with costs exceeding $4 billion. More
than half a million bicycling injuries were documented. A
huge percentage of those injuries were head injuries,
which could have been prevented had riders worn protective

Undoubtedly, many of you have seen the "priceless" credit card commercials.
In these commercials, the viewer is shown several things he or she can
purchase (with the right credit card.) Each of these items is then
followed by the price. But it is the final thing mentioned which provides
the punch line—and the reason for buying all of the previous things. It
is something that you cannot purchase. The comment then, as the
commercial comes to an end is: "Priceless."

I do not claim to know much about the field of marketing, but this
approach strikes me as an incredibly cunning tactic. They convince the
consumer to spend more money by appealing to the heart with the simple
truth that money cannot buy everything! In a consumer driven world, the
reverse psychology is certainly clever, but might it also communicate a
certain awareness?

The fact is, it is hard to argue with the many social observers including
a former Vice President who once noted: "The accumulation of material
goods is at an all-time high, but so is the number of people who feel an
emptiness in their lives." Indeed, it is no longer uncommon to hear the
testimonies—sometimes tragically, of individuals who have made it to the
top, made their million, or the fame they so diligently pursued only to
find there that same sense of inadequacy and loneliness. Perhaps we have
begun to see the bankruptcy of materialism, the fleeting nature of success
and fame, and the weariness that arises within the incessant human desire
for “more.” Perhaps we have begun to see that it is true, as a wise man
once said, that man cannot live by bread alone.

In fact, many lives have wrestled with the truth of that famous phrase
depicted in the Gospel of Matthew. The story explains that after 40 days
of fasting, the famished Jesus is tempted by Satan to turn stones into
bread. But Christ responds, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by
every word that comes from the mouth of God.” (Footnote 1: Matthew 4)
Can you see the infinite wisdom in denying that temptation? Jesus proclaims
the word of God more vital to life than anything else, more sustaining
than any material thing that can satisfy any of our countless desires and

Christ reminds us of what we already know: there are many fleeting things
in this world, including our own cravings. But the Word of God withstands
the test of time. And truly, his words pierce the very heart of our
materially distracted and sensory preoccupied world even today. Through
the prophet Isaiah, God asks, “Why do you spend your money for that which
is not bread, and labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen carefully
to me, and eat what is good… Incline your ear, and come to me; listen so
that you may live.” (Footnote 2: Isaiah 55:2-3)

You see, man cannot live by bread alone, nor by credit card or status
alone because we are not simply creatures whose purpose in life is exacted
by possession or accomplishment. In the wisdom of journalist Malcolm
Muggeridge, the only ultimate disaster that can befall us is to feel at
home here on earth. The word of God urges us to see more: To see a
Kingdom where moth and rust cannot destroy and thieves cannot break in and
steal. The treasure in Christ’s words, “Man shall not live by bread alone
but by every word that comes from the mouth of God” is truly priceless,
for his words lead to Life. (Jill Carattini)
Stressing the importance of a large vocabulary, the UNC English
professor told his class, "Use a word ten times and it will be
yours for life."

In the back of the room a pert sophomore closed her eyes and
was heard chanting under her breath: "Fred, Fred, Fred,
Fred, Fred, Fred, Fred, Fred, Fred, Fred."
Trust in yourself and you are doomed to disappointment;
trust in money and you may have it taken from you;
but trust in God, and you are never to be confounded
in time or eternity. - D.L. Moody

Verse of the Day

* * * Four important things to KNOW: #1) For ALL (Americans, Muslims, Jews, Catholics, Hindus, Buddhist, Asians, Presbyterians, Europeans, Baptist, Brazilians, Mormons, Methodist, French, etc.) have sinned & fall short of the glory of God. #2) For the wages of above (see #1) are DEATH (Hell, eternal separation from God, & damnation) but the Gift (free & at no charge to you) of God (Creator, Jehovah, & Trinity) is Eternal Life (Heaven) through (in union with) Jesus Christ (God, Lord, 2nd Person of The Trinity, Messiah, Prince of Peace & Savior of the World). #3) For God so greatly loved & dearly prized the world (Americans, Muslims, Jews, Catholics, Hindus, Buddhist, Asians, Presbyterians, Europeans, Baptist, Brazilians, Mormons, Methodist, French, etc.) that He even gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, that whosoever (anyone, anywhere, anytime - while still living) believes (trust in, relies on, clings to, depends completely on) Him shall have eternal (everlasting) life (heaven). #4) Jesus said: "I am THE WAY, THE TRUTH, & THE LIFE. No one (male/female - American, Muslim, Jew, Catholic, Hindu, Buddhist, Asian, Presbyterian, European, Baptist, Brazilian, Mormons, Methodist, French, etc. ) comes (arrives) to the Father (with GOD in Heaven) EXCEPT BY (through) ME (no other name). *** This wonderful loving GOD gives you the choice - - - (Rev. 3:20) {Please note that church membership, baptism, doing good things, etc. are not requirements for becoming a Christian - however they are great afterwards!!!} *** Jesus said, "Wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction (Hell, damnation, eternal punishment), and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life (Heaven, eternal happiness, forever with God), and only a few find it.

D I S C L A I M E R If someone should ask if it's legal to download songs
found on various non-commercial sites, such as this one.

Well, I'm neither a lawyer nor a technician,
and I've begun to wonder if it was legal for
us to tape music off the radio back when
tape recorders first came into being.

And were we committing a crime when we recorded
a movie shown on TV with our VCRs? And was it
really legal to buy a dual-deck recorder for the
express purpose of duplicating cassettes?

My answer to all of the above is, "I don't know."

Nonetheless, here is a formal statement in
some kind of legalize that appears to apply
to this kind of file availability:
